Perseverance, Purpose & Continuing Service
Keep going in a good cause, long after the uniform comes off.

The Core Idea

“Lage Raho” (keep at it) expresses the spirit of perseverance: staying committed to a meaningful purpose despite obstacles, setbacks or changing circumstances. It reflects the belief that service and nation-building are continuing journeys, requiring patience, resilience and the willingness to keep contributing beyond individual achievements or formal positions.

How it shapes my approach

My 37 years in the Indian Army have reinforced my belief that meaningful change rarely happens overnight. Whether the task is addressing complex security challenges, transforming organisations or mobilising communities, progress demands sustained effort, adaptability and faith in the larger purpose. I see every assignment not as an isolated achievement but as an opportunity to create foundations on which others can build.

Application to strategy

I approach long-term challenges with the conviction that strategy must outlast the individual who initiates it. This requires persistence in pursuing objectives, the humility to learn and adapt, and the discipline to build institutions, capabilities and community ownership that sustain progress. My service on the Siachen Glacier (1998–99) and then in Sub Sector Haneef during Operation Vijay (1999) was built on these ideas. Retirement from military service is not the end of the mission. It is a transition to new avenues of service to Bharat. My seva in Kangundi and for Maa Godavari will continue after I retire on 31 October 2026.

The Guiding Principle

Stay committed to the purpose, persevere through the challenges, and keep serving long after the title and uniform have changed.
